A PEASANT GIRL IN A STATE OF REVERIE

A peasant lost girl in a  world of her own whilst collecting water from the Seine. A beautifully rendered image by an artist almost unknown in Europe but with an enthusiastic following in the the USA.. If you close one eye you may find that this image takes on a three dimensional quality

Daniel Ridgway Knight was born in Pennsylvania where he studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under Thomas Eakins and Mary Cassett. In 1861 he moved to Paris to study at the L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Discouraged by the Civil War from returning to America, he remained in Paris for the rest of his life. His speciality was peasant girls in a state of reverie, as seen here.
