Audubon's watercolour is of the bird only.  It is not known for certain who painted the background. In was probably one of Audubon's sons. All known surviving original prints are very seriously compromised by extreme degradation of the colours, particularly in the foreground. Surprisingly, these degraded colours continue to be slavishly reproduced even now. What is seen here is a carefully considered compromise between the surviving prints and the existing landscape colours of the known location.
