Special Note: Seligmann's rendition of the bird was heavily coated with degraded glaze that
obliterated the detail and was impossible to remove. The restored image has Catesby's original
engraving of the bird superimposed over Seligmann's redraft.   This print reflects the best of both.

Catesby possibly did not realise that the bird is a female Indigo Bunting and that the
male is a striking iridescent blue else he would surely have shown the male instead.
