completely true fit for this image) AND CAROLINA (RED) LILY - Lilium carolinianum
The original prints are missing the right quarter of the lily corm simply
ran out of room on the copper plate. The missing part has been
reconstructed with close
reference to the original watercolour.
The snake appears to be an amalgam of the above
species together with a liberal helping of Catesby's imagination. A
lovely image nonetheless.
